The work relations to Poland go back to the year 1993 when Mrs Miksza, PhD, academic lecturer at the University of Lódz, was on a study visit at the Montessori Centre in Münster. Today, Mrs Miksza, PhD is head of the Polish Montessori Association and works as a teacher at a Montessori school. In 1995, Prof. Ludwig participated in an international congress on Alternative Education in Lódz by giving a lecture on Montessori. The congress was led by Prof. Boguslaw Sliwerski, PhD, who today holds a chair of Educational Theory and Alternative Education. In 1996/1997, Prof. Sliwerski and Mrs Miksza, PhD participated in the international series of lectures that was mentioned above. In 1998, Prof. Ludwig gave lectures and visited Montessori facilities in Lódz, Warsaw and Wroclaw. Prof. Holtstiege repeatedly travelled to Poland in order to deliver lectures and to participate in Montessori training courses that were partly organised in the “Hedwig Academy” near Wroclaw. In this academy, a seminar on the educational theories of Maria Montessori and Janusz Korczak, which was led by Prof. Ludwig and Reinhard Fischer, PhD and to which Prof. Sliwerski contributed, was held with students of the universities of Münster and Belgorod in the summer semester 2000.
A further international congress on New Education that was led by Prof. Sliwerski with the assistance of Prof. Ludwig took place in 2001. In November 2002 a conference of the “European Montessori Forum” (EMF) with the participation of Montessori academics from Münster took place in Lódz. In 2004 Prof. Ludwig was awarded the certificate of honour of the Polish Montessori Association for his contribution to the development of Montessori Education in Poland.
