Austria

The co-operation with Austrian Montessori academics and practitioners goes back to as early as the 1980s and has been promoted in particular by Prof. Hildegard Holtstiege, PhD. A co-operating partner on the part of the Austrians is, on the one hand, Prof. Franz Hammerer, PhD, of the Educational Academy of the archbishopric Vienna, who took part in the series of lectures in the winter semester of 1996/1997, and, on the other hand, Herbert Haberl, PhD, the chairman of the Austrian National Association for Montessori Education and former director of the Educational Institute of Salzburg. Montessori academics from Münster such as Prof. Schulz-Benesch and Prof. Ludwig were involved in the Krimmler Montessori Days that Mr Haberl organised in the 1990s. For many years, Prof. Holtstiege has been travelling to Austria in order to give lectures and has been involved in training courses, especially in Vienna. Herbert Haberl, PhD participated in the conference of the Montessori Centre in Münster in October 2005.
